A Limited Edition HO SCALE Atlas USRA Rebuilt Steel 40' Box Car painted for freelance model railroad Virginian and Ohio! Road Number Variant: V&O 30495.
Perhaps the most recognized of all freelanced model railroads is Allen McClelland's Virginian and Ohio. Here at Home Shops we are huge fans of this great railroad and have several products in the works, both pre- and post-Appalachian Lines. This gorgeous transition-era boxcar features the classic V&O coonskin logo with the simple lettering in Railroad Roman font that was the hallmark of early V&O branding. Available in four numbers, these cars are a must have if you are modeling the transition era or first generation diesel era of the Virginian and Ohio!
About the Prototype:
By the beginning of WWII, the majority of the classic USRA double-sheathed box cars and their clones were rebuilt with steel sides. More rebuilds followed in the late 1940s and early 1950s. By late 1948, close 14,000 of the original 24,500 USRA double-sheathed cars had been rebuilt with quite a degree of variation including the end, door and underframe. These steel side rebuilds were far more popular than their single-sheathed counterparts and make a great addition to the Atlas HO scale product line.
