A Limited Edition HO SCALE Atlas USRA Rebuilt Steel 40' Box Car painted for freelance model railroad Miami Valley Railroad! Road Number Variant: MVR 30290.
A little-known component of Allen McClelland's freelance journey is the Miami Valley Railroad. Before the Virginian and Ohio, Allen modeled in S-scale and he developed the Miami Valley Railroad! The real Miami Valley is the area surrounding the Great Miami River in southwest Ohio and became the setting for this freelance creation. As Allen's interests progressed, he moved into HO Scale and developed the Virginian and Ohio that we all know and love today.
Allen did incorporate the Miami Valley into the Virginian and Ohio story, and there is even some equipment out there with Miami Valley lettering. For this offering we bring to you the Miami Valley Railroad history in grand fashion on a beautiful car with the classing V&O logo in the same position as on the V&O offering in this run. But if you look closely, the lettering reads "MIAMI VALLEY RAILROAD" and the reporting marks are MVR!
About the Prototype:
By the beginning of WWII, the majority of the classic USRA double-sheathed box cars and their clones were rebuilt with steel sides. More rebuilds followed in the late 1940s and early 1950s. By late 1948, close 14,000 of the original 24,500 USRA double-sheathed cars had been rebuilt with quite a degree of variation including the end, door and underframe. These steel side rebuilds were far more popular than their single-sheathed counterparts and make a great addition to the Atlas HO scale product line.
