About the Prototype:
The FMC 5347 boxcar was manufactured by the FMC Corporation, a company known for producing a variety of freight railcars, in the 1970s and 1980s. The “5347” in the name refers to the car’s capacity in cubic feet, making it a larger boxcar compared to earlier FMC models such as the 5077 (also available from Atlas). These cars were very prominent during the “IPD” (incentive per diem) era. Many featured colorful paint schemes and logos, a welcome change from earlier eras when most boxcars were much plainer. FMC was acquired by Greenbrier in 1985. Production at the Oregon plant continued under the name Gunderson.
The Atlas FMC 5347 Box Car features:
- Single or Double Door where appropriate
