About the Yankeetown Dock Corporation
The modern Yankeetown Dock Corporation (YDC) is a "What if...?" depiction of the prototype railroad's expansive success brought into modeling reality as a freelance medium. The short industrial railroad quickly took every opportunity to expand as Norfolk Southern began to divest itself of branch lines and short subdivisions to focus on through freight service. The YDC quickly gained access to Rockport and the NS interchange at Huntingburg, IN. The line to Rockport gained another valuable coal consumer and the steel plant just north of it allowed for an expanded traffic base. The railroad's next expansion was to the west by way of haulage rights on coal trains to mines in the Powder River Basin in addition to mines on the Utah Belt.
The freelance version of the railroad's humble beginnings establish from a duo of SD38-2's and lone HC-15 (rebuilt SDP35) quickly expanded under the freelance realm to include locomotives such as SD60's, SD60M's, Dash 8-40C's, ES44AC's, & SD70ACU's. Likewise the aging fleet of steel coal hoppers was modernized with 2nd hand purchased bethgons and brand new FCA AutoFlood III coal hoppers. The new customer base brought in a variety of new rolling stock for industrial products as well.
We look forward to Matt Gentry's exciting expansion on this concept and bringing it to fruition in HO-Scale form!
