About the West Falls Northern

The West Falls Northern was originally chartered in 1871 to build a line from Buffalo north to Ogdensburg, New York and served as a bridge line to New England.  At Ogdensburg we interchanged with the Rutland. After their shut down, we obtained their trackage after the state of Vermont purchased it to Alburgh and used trackage rights into St Albans to interchange with Canadian National/Central Vermont/Lamoille Valley.

After the Surface Transportation Board blocked Guilford from obtaining and merging Delaware &Hudson, this route would gain added significance with the reopening of the Mountain Division and eventually obtaining the Lamoille Valley and using this route out of New England to Buffalo and using West Falls’ prior overhead trackage rights after the Conrail split to Cleveland and eventually to Pittsburgh after acquiring Pittsburg & Lake Erie.

In my world, Conrail was sold to Norfolk Southern in the late 1980s, and Guilford acquired trackage rights all the way to St. Louis.
